ASQ Certification Programs

As the global voice of quality, the American Society for Quality (ASQ) offers industry-recognized credentials that demonstrate your proficiency in quality management, engineering, and process improvement.

Below are the details for our six core ASQ certification courses.

1. Certified Six Sigma Black Belt (CSSBB)

Master the Art of Process Excellence. The Six Sigma Black Belt is the gold standard for professionals who want to lead complex improvement projects and drive significant financial results. This certification validates your ability to lead teams and master the entire Six Sigma Body of Knowledge.

  • Who This Is For: Experienced professionals who are ready to lead complex, cross functional process improvement projects. Ideal for Project Managers, Quality Managers, and Consultants.
  • What You Will Learn:
    • Deep understanding of the DMAIC (Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, Control) model.
    • Advanced statistical analysis and design of experiments.
    • Team leadership, dynamics, and change management.
    • Lean enterprise concepts and non-value-added activity elimination.
  • Prerequisites:
    • Two completed projects with signed affidavits, OR
    • One completed project with a signed affidavit and three years of work experience in one or more areas of the Six Sigma Body of Knowledge.

2. Certified Six Sigma Green Belt (CSSGB)

Become a Data-Driven Problem Solver. The Green Belt certification is designed for professionals who want to support process improvement initiatives. Green Belts work under the supervision of Black Belts to analyze and solve quality problems.

  • Who This Is For: Process owners, quality officers, and team members who want to improve their problem-solving skills and use data to drive decisions.
  • What You Will Learn:
    • Practical application of Six Sigma tools and methodologies.
    • Root cause analysis and process mapping.
    • Basic statistical tools to analyze process performance.
    • How to participate in and support larger Six Sigma projects.
  • Prerequisites:
    • Three years of work experience in one or more areas of the Six Sigma Green Belt Body of Knowledge.
    • Note: Candidates must have a full-time, paid role. Paid intern, co-op, or coursework does not apply.

3. Certified Manager of Quality / Organizational Excellence (CMQ/OE)

Lead with Strategic Vision. The CMQ/OE certification is for leaders who champion process improvement initiatives. It focuses on the management side of quality, ensuring that organizational goals align with quality initiatives.

  • Who This Is For: Managers, directors, and strategic leaders responsible for facilitating organizational excellence and leading teams.
  • What You Will Learn:
    • Strategic planning and deployment.
    • Management elements (leadership, teams, communication).
    • Supply chain management and customer-focused organizations.
    • Quality models, theories, and training development.
  • Prerequisites:
    • 10 years of on-the-job experience in one or more areas of the Body of Knowledge.
    • At least 5 years must be in a decision-making position.

Education Waiver: A bachelor’s degree may waive 4 years of experience; a master’s may waive 5 years

4. Certified Quality Auditor (CQA)

Ensure Compliance and Drive Accountability. The CQA certification validates your ability to assess the adequacy of quality systems. It is essential for professionals who perform internal or external audits to ensure standards are met.

  • Who This Is For: Quality auditors, inspectors, and compliance officers who examine, question, evaluate, and report on quality systems.
  • What You Will Learn:
    • Auditing fundamentals, planning, and performance.
    • Audit reporting and follow-up closure.
    • Auditor competencies and risk management tools.
    • Analyzing quality systems against ISO and other industrial standards.
  • Prerequisites:
    • 8 years of on-the-job experience in one or more areas of the Body of Knowledge.
    • At least 3 years must be in a decision-making position.
    • Education Waiver: A bachelor’s degree may waive 4 years of experience.

5. Certified Quality Engineer (CQE)

Engineer Quality into Every Process. The CQE is a rigorous technical certification for engineers who specialize in the principles of product and service quality evaluation and control.

  • Who This Is For: Quality engineers, reliability engineers, and technical professionals involved in development, operation, and maintenance of quality systems.
  • What You Will Learn:
    • Product and process design.
    • Continuous improvement techniques and risk management.
    • Quantitative methods (statistics, SPC, acceptance sampling).
    • Quality control systems and management.
  • Prerequisites:
    • 8 years of on-the-job experience in one or more areas of the Body of Knowledge.
    • At least 3 years must be in a decision-making position.
    • Education Waiver: A bachelor’s degree may waive 4 years of experience.

6. Certified Quality Technician (CQT)

The Backbone of Quality Control. The CQT certification is designed for paraprofessionals who support quality engineers. It focuses on the practical application of quality tools, inspection, and testing.

  • Who This Is For: Quality technicians, inspectors, and lab technicians who analyze quality problems, prepare inspection plans, and apply statistical process control.
  • What You Will Learn:
    • Quality problem-solving and troubleshooting.
    • Inspection, testing, and metrology (calibration).
    • Data collection and analysis.
    • Fundamental statistical concepts and probability.
  • Prerequisites:
    • 4 years of higher education and/or work experience in one or more areas of the Body of Knowledge.
    • Education Waiver: An associate degree or trade school diploma may waive up to 2 years of the requirement.
